Game of the Week

Outkasts v. Aviato

Monday, August 17
By Stephanie Gaudinier

YSA kicked off another game of the week on Monday August 17th at North Meadow #8. A hot and sticky day, with no trees in site, Outkasts and Aviato matched how they were playing to the intensity of the weather. A back and for battle between the two teams kicked off at 6:15pm. A possible preview of what’s to come in the upcoming playoff games. Right from the start Outkasts attacked offensively. Nick Prezioso led off the 1st inning with a double that turned into a triple because of interference. This would be followed singles from Matthew Way, Rafy Abreu, Bill Clark and Mike Moore. Along with a few walks in the inning, Outkasts score 9 runs! Aviato steps up to bat and is quickly shut down by Outkasts' defense. Jake Trundle’s double is the only hit that inning. In the 2nd Aviato returns the favor to Outkasts handing them a quick 1-2-3 inning. Offensively, Aviato would score 4 runs off hits from Dave Wachs, Brett Andler, Ben Ross and Iggy, making the score after 2: Outkasts 9, Aviato 4.

Aviato would hand Outkasts another 1-2-3 inning in the top half of the 3rd. Hits from Dave Wachs, Brett Andler, Iggy and Jake Trundle would bring another run across the plate for Aviato. The score: Outkasts 9, Aviato 5. The 4th inning would have another strong offensive drive for Outkasts. Hits from Matthew Way, Bill Clark, Justin Elie and Sean Mccutcheon would tack 4 runs on the board. Aviato’s offensive drive would be shut down by a solid Outkasts defense in the bottom of the 4th; Outkasts serve up a 1-2-3 inning of their own.

In the 5th Nick Prezioso would cross the plate off a double from Matthew Way. Aviato’s offense was set ablaze in the 5th! Brett Andler led off with a single, followed by a double from Ben Ross, a single from Jake Trundle, a single from Eric Wachs and single from Warren Wertheim. The biggest hit of the night came from Gregory Dong who crushed a homer into the infield, practically on the pitcher’s mound, of the adjacent north meadow field! Outkasts puts a stop to Aviato’s runaway train with 5-3 play ending the inning. The score after 5: Outkasts 14, Aviato 11.

Aviato delivers another flawless 1-2-3 inning in the 6th, stopping Outkasts dead in their tracks. Outkasts returns the favor with a 1-2-3 inning of their own. In the 7th Outkasts leaves Matthew Way stranded on second base. Aviato needing 3 runs to keep the game alive is jammed by another 1-2-3 inning from Outkasts’ defense. Both teams left it all on the field. What an incredible game to watch!

Videos and pictures from the game are available on Facebook and Instagram.

We would like to Outkasts and Aviato for allowing us to feature their game. Best of luck to both teams in the playoffs! If you would like your team to be featured in YSA’s Game of the Week send an email to Stephanie at
